Art Deco Society of Los Angeles Code of Conduct for Social Events

Why we have a code of conduct:

To foster a welcoming, safe, and respectful environment that aligns with our mission, ensuring all members and guests feel valued, safe and can participate fully.

1. Core Principles:

  • Respect & Inclusivity: Treat everyone with dignity, kindness, and compassion, regardless of background, identity, ability, or perspective. There is no place for discrimination and harassment.

  • Safety First: Be mindful of surroundings, support others, and alert staff to any unsafe or distressing situations.

  • Mission Alignment: Actions should reflect our organization's values and goals.

2. Prohibited Conduct (Zero Tolerance):

  • Harassment & Discrimination: Sexual harassment, bullying, intimidation, or any behavior based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, etc. (referencing California FEHA/Title VII principles).

  • Violence & Threats: Physical or verbal threats, intimidation, or aggressive behavior.

  • Substance Abuse: Excessive intoxication or misuse of alcohol/substances that impairs judgment, endangers others or in any way and results in an impediment to other guests enjoying the event to the fullest is unacceptable. Guests at an event are expected to monitor their own alcohol intake and behavior at a socially acceptable level.

  • Disruptive Behavior: Behavior that significantly disrupts the event or infringes on others' ability to enjoy it.

  • Privacy Violations: Sharing personal information or gossip without consent.

3. Expectations for Behavior:

  • Be Considerate: Be mindful of personal space, noise levels, and different communication styles.

  • Digital Etiquette: Respect privacy online; do not post photos/info without consent.

  • Responsible Participation: Engage constructively; if disagreements arise, focus on ideas, not personal attacks.

  • Uphold Standards: Comply with all applicable local, state (California), and federal laws.

4. Reporting Violations:

  • Should you experience a situation at an event that you wish to report, you can do so by email.

  • Confidentiality: Reports will be handled discreetly.

  • Non-Retaliation: No retaliation against anyone reporting a concern in good faith.

5. Consequences:

  • Violations may lead to warnings, removal from the event, suspension of membership, or other actions as deemed appropriate by the board/leadership.
